1976 BMW 2002

This late model BMW 2002 was tattered but mostly rust free, an excellent candidate for restoration. The vehicle had been painted and re-painted, therefore three layers of paint had to be stripped off in order to properly examine and repair the body.

A turbo inspired lower valence was installed by permanently removing the front bumper and eliminating the original bumper mount locations. A new windscreen was also installed, as well as all new door and glass gaskets. The headliner was re-upholstered and the water damaged fiber backing between the headliner and the roof of the car was replaced. Unlike modern headliners this presented quite a challenge as the upholstery needed to be attached to a series of ribs and adjusted both before and after installation.

After stripping, repairing and making all of the desired changes the vehicle was painted. First the epoxy primer was applied, then five successive coats of the base color and finally the clear coat which was wet sanded, buffed and hand rubbed to near perfection.
