Mechanical Restoration

One of the most exciting aspects of mechanical restoration for us at European Auto Restoration is rebuilding damaged or worn engines and transmissions. David Michele, our lead mechanic, specializes in rebuilding Mercedes Benz diesel motors, which are arguably the most complex engines on the market. David approaches each engine rebuild as carefully and lovingly as an artist approaching a canvas.

Mercedes Benz OM motors (which stands for Oil Motor or diesel fuel motor) are absolutely the best in the business. Mercedes diesel motors routinely rack up half a million miles or more, and if the engine is rebuilt carefully to exacting standards it should run for another half a million miles. This is why we only use factory Mercedes Benz parts shipped directly from Mercedes in Germany. Here are a few recent OM’s that have been painstakingly restored here at European Auto Restoration.

Alfa Romeo built beautiful DOHC all aluminum engines that are capable of producing very impressive power. With motors that were designed purely to deliver power a restoration often includes innovative modifications such as porting the cylinder head or choosing more aggressive cams and pistons. Weather we rebuild an engine in a historically correct vehicle or a heavily modified vintage track car we only use factory Alfa Romeo parts to original specifications or the highest quality modified racing parts.
